Sungrow Powers New Zealand’s Largest Solar Farm - Tauhei Solar Farm

Te Aroha, New Zealand, October 13, 2025 - Sungrow, the global leading PV inverter and energy storage system provider is proud to announce its participation in New Zealand’s largest solar farm-- Tauhei Solar Farm, located near Te Aroha on the North Island of New Zealand. Sungrow will supply and commission its advanced inverter technology for the landmark project.

The 202 MWp (150 MW AC) Tauhei Solar Farm, is a joint venture between Harmony Energy and Clarus and is scheduled to be operational by late 2026. Once completed, it will generate an estimated 280 GWh of clean electricity annually, enough to power more than 35,000 New Zealand homes and significantly contribute to the nation’s decarbonization goals.

The Tauhei Solar Farm will be powered by twenty-seven units of Sungrow’s SG6800HV-MV central inverters and one PPC1000 Power Plant Controller. The SG6800HV-MV delivers up to 99% efficiency, with effective cooling systems that enable full power operation in high temperatures. Its integrated current and voltage monitoring allows for real-time online analysis and troubleshooting, ensuring streamlined and reliable operation. The PPC1000 controller combines both hardware and software functions of a power plant controller and local SCADA, enabling intelligent energy dispatch for utility-scale PV plants. With advanced device monitoring and diagnostic capabilities, the PPC1000 enhances operational efficiency and simplifies maintenance across the entire solar farm.

The Tauhei Solar Farm will be connected to Transpower's 110 kV grid via the Waihou substation to ensure the integration of its production into the national supply. The solar panels will also be providing shade and shelter for livestock, significantly contributing to the decarbonization of the country's energy system.

The construction is expected to generate approximately 350 full-time equivalent jobs at peak, providing a significant boost to the local economy and creating permanent employment opportunities once operational.

We are honoured to contribute to this landmark project that demonstrates the power of innovation and collaboration in driving a cleaner energy future for New Zealand. Sungrow is committed to delivering high-performance, innovative renewable energy that supports a reliable and sustainable national grid” said Joe Zhou, Country Manager of Sungrow Australia.
